“I am very impressed with the quality of work and the professional level of craftsmanship you provide. I think we should consider doing a case study of your homes, their performance, the details and the methods you have developed to create exceptional homes. The product you are creating is representative of the best housing in the country. People need to see that and begin to replicate it. You should be very proud.”- Mark LaLiberte, teacher, lecturer and consultant to the green building industry.

Rainier Vista - Phase 1(map)
Habitat's Rainier Vista project is located in the Rainier Valley area of Seattle, between Interstate 5 and Lake Washington. The Seattle Housing Authority (SHA) neighborhood was developed in the 1940s as a 471-unit rental project. In 1999 SHA completed a comprehensive neighborhood planning process to create the plan to redevelop the worn out rental units into a mixed-use, mixed-income neighborhood of 526 rental units serving low-to moderate-income households and 250-350 new homes and condominiums for sale to a variety of income levels. Rainier Vista is one of the most culturally diverse communities in the country.
The Habitat Rainier Vista Phase 1 project consists of three 4-plex buildings which are being built in three phases – A, B and C. Phase A (photo above) was completed in January 2010. Phase B, (photo below) the second four-plex, was completed in December 2010. Phase C, the final four-plex began construction in January 2011.
The block is designed to accommodate a variety of family sizes with an emphasis on creating a safe, accessible site with front yard gardens and ample rear yards. Once complete, the 12 homes will be made up of six 3-bedroom units (1 of which will be ADA compliant), two 4-bedroom units, three 5-bedroom units and one 6-bedroom units. The buildings are arranged so that every home will have a front porch and garden as well as a fenced back yard. Walkways extend from the back yards to the paved parking area, which accommodates one car for each unit. The Rainier Vista homes will be Energy Star Certified, meet the Evergreen Sustainability standard of 50 or more points, and meet Built Green 3-star standards.
